As a senior level account person, part of my job is making sure my team looks flawless for presentations and in doing so our ideas come to life fully. I don’t want anything to detract from the ideas and how they accomplish the brief and the strategy. Clients look forward to these presentations and nothing ruins the moment like a sweating account person laboring over a projector simultaneously trying to look calm while the creative team tries to entertain everyone and deflect attention from the malfunction whilst the CEO and CMO keep looking at their watches and iPhones.

After participating in and giving presentations for over 15 years I also know just about everything that can go wrong; the most common things I’ve encountered are: no power cord, corrupt files, wrong dongle (the cord that goes from our Macs to the projector), a presenter that forgets their material or my personal best, when the CEO told me, “There’s no power and no point to PowerPoint, we didn’t fly you here to show us slides. We flew you here to present, please do so.”

As anyone would do, I’ve optimized my system over the years to prevent any of these malfunctions and errors and now have GoBags as I refer to them. In addition to my personal presentation rules of: know your material cold, load the preso onto two (2) computers, and have a back-up print out of the presentation; I make sure the agency has Eagle Creek bags (sturdy, waterproof, mesh and yes, a former client) filled with the following, we grab them on the way out the door for every presentation. They’re worth every penny.
